Thanks Arch…it’s been real, Hello Fedora!
Earlier in the year, I did a full commitment to Arch Linux after running Manjaro for awhile. It was great! Minimal, full control of the system, i3wm. I learned so much more about linux and operating systems than I had previously known. However, it got to the point where I lost interest in task of ‘getting things to work’ and it was actually making me less productive. I don’t think this would have been the case if I was using it as my personal and work machine but strictly as a personal machine, it always took some time to get reacquatined and a bunch of research when issues came up. I got tired of it and wanted something that just worked but that didn’t have training wheels. I needed more productivity!!!
That is when Fedora entered my life. I gave it a spin, read a bunch and enjoyed the balance of it ‘just working’ but to the point it wasn’t meant for beginners. So far it has been just that. I opted to go with XCFE desktop instead of a window manager. However, I setup all the keyboard short cuts just as I had in i3. I really enjoy the minimalism of XCFE along with a bunch of customization within the desktop environment and the default file manager Thunar. Custom actions within Thunar allows me to incorporate a bunch of productivty into my work flow. Panels are easy to setup and the Fedora repository has had everything I was looking for. This is the first distro I have installed where I really don’t have any complaints so far. It was very easy to do an encrypted install, software management is a breeze and it has been very stable. I’m looking forward to rolling with Fedora for a very long time at this point.
